Sergio Omar Salazar

Sergio O. Salazar, MA, is a bilingual (Spanish and English) librarian, full-time university professor, academic writing consultant and translator based in Guadalajara, Mexico.

In January 2014 Sergio was promoted to Associate Professor of the Department of Academic Information at ITESO, Jesuit University of Guadalajara, after three years of teaching Data Management and Cultural Theory and Analysis courses at the Department of Sociocultural Studies. He currently works as academic advisor at the university’s library Biblioteca Dr. Jorge Villalobos Padilla and is in charge of the library’s Assessment & Evaluation Program. As research assistant he has worked for the Chair on Social Responsibility, Communication, Ethics and Citizenship at the Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) and in the project Intervened Bodies and Emerging Subjectivities (ITESO).

He has papers, conferences and ongoing research in the subjects of masculinities, sexual diversity and religion. He was the editor (2009), translator and proofreader (2006-2008) of Tendencias, Journal of International Studies, published by ITESM. In 2012 Sergio started to offer his services as independent editor and translator, reviewing and editing dissertations, articles and book chapters, as well as translating commercial and academic contents for clients such as LéaLA, Los Angeles Spanish Language Book Fair; the Guadalajara International Film Festival; Graphic Speech and Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid, Spain. He has been invited to instruct seminars on Writing and Publishing Academic Papers for graduate students at the Faculty of Business and Engineering of the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in Tecate, Mexico. He has also instructed a workshop on New Masculinities to Indigenous men in Guadalajara, as part of the Jalisco Institute of Women’s Program to Erradicate Violence against Women.

Master in Communication of Science and Culture (ITESO, 2012) and Bachelor in Communication Sciences (ITESM, 2008), Sergio has also studied at Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Bluche, Switzerland (2003); the Department of Sociology at the University of Birmingham, England (2007); and the Center of Health Sciences at the University of Guadalajara (2010).
